You are My Sunshine


There's something so sentimental balled up in every word of the song,
"You are My Sunshine".
It seems to be a mother's ballad, created uniquely for that feeling that resides so clearly in her heart, 
yet lacks the gift of articulation.
Kaia and I sing that song while I hold her on my hip, her legs kicking along to beat, her arms often tight around my neck. I sing the words and she fills in the blanks.
You are my 
SUNSHINEEEEE, she belts.
My only
SUNSHINEEEEE.
You make my

when skies are gray.

Please don't take my

away.

All the while, she throws her head back, closes her eyes so tightly they wrinkle, scrunches up that cute little nose of hers with the cheesiest grin on her face.
I never want to forget that picture of my sweet 2 year old being admired by her love-struck mama.

    My dad would sing that song to my sister, he called her his sunshine bc her name was Sunde. I agree, that is a great song. And even better when it reminds you of someone you love.

    So sweet. I sing it to my 9 month old boy before bed, so I'm only hoping that one day he'll get as enthusiastic as yours. Love her name, btw!
